Martin Dzuris - His Life

Martin lived half of his life behind the Iron Curtain under the oppression of communism. Martin may be the only American to defect communism twice in one lifetime. Therefore he knows what it is like to live with and without freedom thus creating unique perspectives and insight on what freedom actually is.

Martin first time defected from communism to the USA after the Prague Spring. Five years later he was kidnapped and forcefully taken back behind the Iron Curtain during the time of “normalization” only to defect again on the last day of "Palach's Week", 9 months before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Martin was a participant in the demonstrations against the communist regime during Palach's Week (first anti-communist protest in 20 years) right at the beginning.

In Communism Martin was forced to serve in the military, forced to participate in civilian “volunteer” service, was forcefully separated from his family and was interrogated by military counter-espionage and secret police. Due to his and his family’s history he was under surveillance and his education and employment was greatly affected. Martin was also a patient and a health care worker under a national socialistic health care system and he experienced all the horrors of the system.

Due to his personal experiences Martin therefore holds unique views when it comes to oppression and liberty. His experiences with communist’s propaganda have taught him to distinguish the differences between appealing rhetoric and actual governmental control / lack of individual freedoms.
Because he has experienced life without liberty, he has acquired an aspiration to preserve the American way of life and The American Dream. The lack of freedom of speech during communism created a unique passion to exercise this freedom and quenched any underlining fear of calling political claims for what they are regardless of the consequences. Political correctness has become a form of restriction of the 1st amendment of the Constitutional Bill of Rights that Martin quickly embraced while having the honor to become an American citizen. Therefore he denounces all reservations of offending anyone and exercises his freedom of speech to the fullest.

Martin’s allegiances are only to God, family, liberty and the USA rather than to a particular party or ideology.

Depending on the issues, Martin has been labeled as a conservative, independent, libertarian and even a liberal. He strongly believes in the Constitution of the United States and believes it should be adhered to and amended only under extreme situations. Martin supports small government and State rights. From personal experience he knows the bigger the government becomes the more power it obtains and as a result citizens lose personal freedoms, prosperity and power. Martin is a hunter and believes the "The right to bear arms" is the most effective provision to protect citizens from their own government and oppression. As he puts it: "You won't have the first [amendment], or any other for that matter, without the second.". Martin also strongly believes in personal freedom, personal responsibility, and protecting the rights of those who can not stand up for themselves such as small children, unborn children, and the under privileged. Martin also has a unique and compelling personal story when it comes to abortion.
Martin grew up as an atheist (without religious freedoms) but changed his world view from atheism to Judeo-Christian after studying various philosophies around the world and developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ after he moved to the US.

“Palach’s Week” (January 1989, first anti-communist protest in Czechoslovakia in 20 years) – I was there, 5 days latter I defected from communism for the 2^nd time. At 1:21 you can see the official communist government controlled media coverage of the demonstration.
There is not much video or photos from a week of demonstrations. The police, riot police, secret police and Peoples Militia (remember Obama saying we need a civilian security force – that what PM is) were breaking cameras and pulling films from peoples cameras. It was a brutal suppression of the demonstrations, tear gas, water canons, beatings, dogs, military vehicles. A guy standing right next to Martin got his arm broken by a baton. In a week of protests over 1400 people got arrested (some spend months in prison), the communist government used about 4000 security forces to suppress the demonstrations.
